Broadway Hill Business Plan

Mission Statement

To serve the community more effectively by developing the provision of all ages within and outwith the church building.

The Aim of the Project

To renovate the premises to better fulfil our mission and service to each other, our partner church, the Circuit Churches and the village.

The Horton Computer Hub and Chattabox Groups have successfully been using the space available but limitations within the building in its current layout are challenging users.  The lack of an inside toilet, limited disability access and an ageing demographic requires that the facilities are updated.  Updated facilities will also enable expansion of outreach activities.

Project Funding

It is not appropriate at this time to continue with the first floor renovations although options for use are being looked at in order to generate an income.

The Church has had a healthy income which has enabled them to cover running costs of the building in its current use.  It is not anticipated that that will alter.

Major works to the ground floor are estimated to cost in the region of £161,000. BHMC has had some success with fundraising and holds regular coffee mornings, jumble sales etc. Several grant applications are currently underway including South Somerset District Council, Circuit, Connexional, Norwood & Newton and EDF.  Chapel Aid is also a funding option being considered.

The Architect is currently being instructed to initiate the tendering process to firm up project costs with a view to the refurbishment commencing in Summer 2014.

Tentative enquiries are being made with Action for Children, CAB and other organisations about use of the updated facilities.  Chattabox and the Computer Hub are already successfully operating and would have the opportunity to expand and diversify.

There is currently a Church Newsletter and increased use of local newspapers and the Horton Website will enable more people to become aware of the outreach work of the Church and the facilities available.
